CHICAGO OPENING SEPT 1 2009

CHICAGO OPENING SEPT 1 2009

CHICAGO OPENING SEPT 1 2009

The minute I walked into Schubas at our Chicago opening last night, I felt a great vibe. It is a church like feeling inside, tall ceilings but inviting and cozy, with a great stage.  Itis attached to an equally quaint restaurant that serves excellent food and a wide selection of great beer and wine. The first person I see up on stage trying to hammer our banner onto the wall,  is our new host Matt Ryd. He is 6 foot 6 and a recent Northwestern graduate, singer, songwriter.

Songwriter Talk: Tina Shafer of the New York Songwriters Circle

Songwriter Talk: Tina Shafer of the New York Songwriters Circle

Back in 1999, when I had only been writing songs and going to open mikes for a few months, I met and befriended a wonderfully talented songwriter named Laine Henderson. She had been performing around the New York area for three years, which, of course, seemed like an eternity to me.

The New York Songwriters CIrcle in Boston and driving madness even with a GPS

The New York Songwriters CIrcle in Boston and driving madness even with a GPS

First off I want to say what an amazing night it was at JohnnyD's with so much talent!!

Will Knox, Jessie Ruben, Hannah Rothman, Liz Longely , Zach Comtoit, all shared the stage at JohnnyD's with me.  Zach, Jessie and Will all knew eachother from Berklee and were constantly providing much humor with their commentary along with their great songs.  Also much singing and drumming was called upon from Hannah to our audience, which they loved. She did a rap/folk song that just blew my mind. I never knew anyone could talk so fast!! She was so enjoyable.

June 16th show

June 16th show

I wanted to make a comment about the magic of this night at the Songwriters
circle.

It was a iittle bit like writing a song. First, with no expectation, then a
little trepidation and finally out of nowhere, something is beautifully made
into music.

Interviewing Russ Titelman and David Novik

Interviewing Russ Titelman and David Novik

Last week, (early June 08) Shai Navon, our COO, and I took my video camera first
to Decca Records/Universal to interview the lovely David Novik (Senior VP of
A&R at Decca/Universal) David is from the UK originally and has been in our business
discovering and working with amazing talent for many years. He actually thinks
that the present "down market" has been a good thing for labels as it is getting
them back to what they forgot how to do and that is sign great talent and truly
develop them and stick with them.
