John Schmitt Competes This Week
A local singer-songwriter, originally from Buffalo, New York, has been
selected as a finalist along with 11 others in the New York Songwriters
Circle Songwriting Contest. His winning tune is called Ophelia and is
one of my favorites by this young troubadour, and can be heard on his
MySpace page at www.myspace.com/johnschmitt.
Schmitt will have plenty of competition. Jen Foster from Nashville was
heavily influenced by Bob Dylan which is quite evident in her song
entitled Venice Beach. I’m also looking forward to hearing Seth Glier,
a 20-year-old Bostonian pianist whose song, The Trouble With People, is
quite interesting.
