Meet Shelly Peiken

Meet Shelly Peiken, an amazing singer-songwriter out of LA.

1. What is your first musical memory?
Can't say I remember just 1.

2. When did you you know you wanted to pursue music?
There was never a specific moment. I was pursuing it from Kindergarten.

3. Who, in your opinion, is the best songwriter?
There simply cannot be a best. Bacharach, Lennon/McCartney, Carly, Todd, Daryl,Stevie

4. What is your favorite song you've written and why? What's the story behind it?
"Bitch" would be up there because it was as much about Meredith as it was about myself, and usually I'm trying to get into someone else's head. "Almost Doesn't Count" was about the 100th song I've written about the same relationship .I think in writing that one, I finally put my finger on the "giving up".

5. What are your top three goals when writing a song?
That Please myself. That it's what I want to listen to first thing the next morning. That it has good shot at getting recorded.

6. How has your Circle experience been so far?
Fun.

What has it meant to you?
Remembering what we're doing this for.

7. Any advice for aspiring singer/songwriters?

Becoming songwriter shouldn't be a choice. It just happens and never goes away. If you're thinking about giving up you probably should.

8. How do you feel when writing a new song?
Will this be as good as that other one?

When you've finished it?
Will Distill love it tomorrow?

When you play it live for the first time?

This is attest of the emergency broadcasting system.

9. Are there any songs you perform that are difficult for you because they're so personal?

No. Those are the only ones I WILL perform.

10. What are your career goals?
To keep trying to write from an unexplored perspective. Quit when Is top having fun.
