More about Ruut

Year In California

It's rare for a young artist to write and perform music immediately timeless, defying categorization yet with enough broad appeal to make a street corner in London work as well for her as a 2,000 seat theater with Delbert McClinton. Growing up in Finland, with music always at the center of her life, Ruut has been able to accomplished what many singer/songwriters only dream of; to find the voice that is uniquely her own, and possess the talent to convey her passion to a remarkably wide audience. Unique challenges faced in her young adulthood instilled her with determination to exceed expectations and have added depth and poetic power to her lyrics.

Ruut has been honing her songwriting skills co-writing with host of hit songwriters including Jeff Trott (Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks), The Matrix (Avril Lavigne, Josh Kelley) and Guy Erez (Gipsy Kings, Ryan Cabrera) and recording an already impressive catalogue of songs with producers such as John Schreiner (Sam Phillips, Cher), Heather Holley & Rob Hoffman (Christina Aguillera, Paul Westerberg, T-Bone Burnett) and Saul Zonana (Ben Swift, Spin Doctors). As soulful as Alicia Keys, as lyrical as Sarah McLaughlin and as timeless as Carole King, this emerging artist is bound for major recognition.

In October 2008, Ruut released her debut full-length album, Music of the City, in Finland through EMI, and in Japan through JVC, in February of 2009. Ruut is currently working on a new solo album to be released independently in the US in late 2009.

Do you know how it feels to lay down in the fields
Where no rain ever quenched the desert sun?
Do you miss the home from where you came?
Here in the West it's not the same
You're always feelin' like you've only just begun

Spend a year in California
A year in California
Then you'll know

When your scars begin to heal and your deepest dreams are real
Who's to say you won't keep comin' back for more?
But when you've eaten all you could from the tree of
the knowledge of evil and good
Well then you bleedlike you've never bled before

A year in California
To roughen and reform ya…

Cause now you know where the sun shines
And the glow of the bright lights
They will burn you like fire down the line
You've seen more than you wanted
But you letyourself be haunted
Cause the beauty of it gets you every time

From the words of our lips to the children on our hips
We are weak of the will we run like a creek
Make all the money we can make
but when the ground begins to shake
I don't wanna be the one to fall from the highest peak

Can't say I didn't warn ya
Don't say I didn't warn ya

Now you know where the sun shines
And the glow of the bright lights
They will burn like fire down the line
You've seen more than you wanted
But you let yourself stay haunted
Cause the beauty of it gets you every time
